Flos is an Italian company founded in 1962 by Dino Gavina and Cesare Cassina in Merano. The name "Flos", which means "flower" in Latin, represents the idea of transforming a simple light bulb into illuminating objects capable of changing the way of life not only of Italians, but of everyone. In collaboration with Arturo Eisenkeil, a manufacturer from Merano who imported an innovative polymeric material from the United States, Gavina and Cassina decided to innovate the lighting sector and create new types of lamps.
What began as a small laboratory soon transformed into a company known in Italy and around the world for experimenting with new materials and new stylistic and functional solutions. Flos has created ceiling, ceiling, suspension, floor and wall lamps, collaborating with great designers such as Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, Afra and Tobia Scarpa, Antonio Citterio, Jasper Morrison, Michael Anastassiades and many others.
Gavina's experience in the field of design and collaboration with masters of Italian design have led to unique creations that use the cocoon technique, developed in the United States and pioneered by Eisenkeil. Iconic lamps such as the Taraxacum and the Fantasma were born from these collaborations.
